This is a pre-owned mens wool coat made in England by Hammersley, a trademark owned by Alexandre of England. The coat is made in a classic 1970s style, with peak lapels, shoulder epaulets, a six button double breasted closure, three buttons at the cuffs, flapped pocket at either side, a chest pocket and a 17” centre vent at the back. The coat is fully lined in a bronze coloured satin rayon fabric. There are two inner pockets. The buttons are leather covered. The fabric has a beautiful finish - excellent English quality.
Label: Hammersley of England. Hammersley is a trademark owned by Alexandre of England (London), a fine quality menswear retailer dating back to 1895 that became a manufacturer as well through a merger with John Collier in 1971.
Retailer label: Chas. Johnson & Son Inc. Montreal. Custom Tailors. Chas. Johnson opened, I believe, in 1946, but closed in early 2007
Colour: Taupe
Sizing: The coat is sized as a 42 regular. Please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the coat and the thickness of the fabric into account:
Shoulders: 20” across, from one shoulder/sleeve seam to the other shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 25” from the shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 16 1/2”
Chest: 46” around
Waist: 44” around
Length: 47”, measured flat
Condition: It is in beautiful condition with no signs of wear, tear, stains or odours - really, I don’t think that this coat saw much use at all. The fabric has a beautiful finish to it - this is very clean.
Excellent quality 1970s era English tailoring and very nice wool in an attractive colour - beautiful coat!
