This is a bronze pendant necklace made in Finland by Kalevala Koru.
This pendant necklace is based on a historical piece. It is marked with capital letters KK on the backside as well as with "Made in Finland" - the usual mark consists of scripted "kk" letters, so this may be an older example, although I'm not sure. The pendant hangs on a bronze chain. It features an interesting design with four pieces dangling from the bottom.
The pendant measures 3 3/4" in height and 1 5/8" in width while the chain has a height of 13 1/2" doubled up. It is in very good condition with no wear, dents or other defect.
Kalevala Koru was founded in 1935 by Elsa Heporauta, a Finnish writer, who formed a the Kalevalu women's group with the aim of selling jewelry in order to raise funds for a statue commemorating Finnish women. They based their jewelry designs on archaeological examples found in the National Museum of Finland. The company project was interrupted by the war and funds were diverted to needy causes. They continued to produce jewelry after the war and still are in existence today, producing not only models based on historical pieces, but also on modern designs.
This is a very interesting piece of vintage jewelry - design that is sure to be noticed ....
