1970s Dress Shocking Pink Wool Knit

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This product is unavailable

This is a 1970s dress featuring a sweater knit bodice with cable knit down the center and a tighter knit below the waistline. The dress has a pointy collar and a defined waistline with wide loops that accommodate a matching wool knit belt. The belt has a brass buckle in the shape of a "C", which I assume stands for "Ciao", the design firm for the dress. The skirt has a slash pocket built into either side and the dress is lined in pink rayon acetate.

Age: late 1960s / early 1970s

Label: Ciao for Ports International. Made in Hong Kong.

Ports International was started in Toronto by Luke Tanabe in 1961 as Newport Canada, an import business for clothing from Japan. The company evolved into a women's fashion business and was named Ports International in 1966. They opened flagship stores in Manhattan in 1970 and London in 1978. The company still exists today as Ports 1961.

Color: Shocking Pink

Material: 100% Wool

Sizing: Size 12 is indicated, which is a large size, but please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 15" across shoulder seam-to-seam

Sleeves: 24" long from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 18"

Bust: 32" around, unstretched, stretches out to 38"

It is in very good condition with the exception of a pinhead hole at the right back shoulder (see last close-up photo) - just needs 2 stitches and you'd never know. Otherwise, the dress is very clean and looks like it saw little use, no wear, tear, piling, stains or odors.

This is a very nice quality sweater dress.....great color, nice form and detailing - Hong Kong produced excellent quality garments during the 60s and early 70s
