This is an antique plush carpet made by the Teodor Finster Plush and Carpet Manufactory in Lodz, Poland. The factory was established in 1881, initially producing upholstery fabric and imitation fur fabric but eventually specializing in plush and wool carpets. It became the largest manufacturer of its kind in Poland, employing 800 workers. This antique plush carpet is made of a plush velvet with a crimson red centre and ornate border in tones of ochre gold, blue, green, violet, pink, black and beige. The underside is stamped in white “Teodor Finster Lodz Dess. 390" along with other information. The carpet measures 58” by 80” and is in very good condition with no noted wear - there are some fold creases, but these just need to be steamed out. These antique plush carpets are rather rare and usually only found in Poland, so this is a nice acquisition!
