Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a vintage Fornasetti silk tie featuring a design consisting of the face of Lina Cavalieri wrapped like a candy, repeating multiple times, both on the wide and narrow ends of the tie.  Lina Cavalieri was a 19th century Italian operatic soprano.  Fornasetti saw a photo of her and pronounced her the “most beautiful woman in the world”, using her face in all sorts of contexts, notably in a series of plates known as “Tema e Variazioni”.  Fornasetti (1913-1988) issued his first tie collection in 1980, which only consisted of two designs.  In 1990, Intermoda of Como, Italy was licensed to manufacture Fornasetti neckwear - the lack of the Intermoda name on this vintage Fornasetti silk tie indicates that the tie dates to the 1980s.  This vintage Fornasetti silk tie measures 4” in width and 57 1/2” in length.  The design is in black against a blue background - the fabric is a heavy silk twill.  It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, noted stains or odours, but would benefit from a pressing.  This particular Fornasetti design appears to be rare on a tie.  Recognizable images, wearable art - wonderful vintage Fornasetti silk tie!
