This is a wonderful 1950s era men’s overcoat made of quality wool in a navy blue colour. The tailor’s label dates the coat to October, 1952 (see photo). The wool is of a heavy weight, very substantial, and probably very warm - being a Canadian made coat, where winters are brutal, they would have needed especially warm clothing back then. It is made in a classic overcoat style with padded shoulders, wide and long peaked lapels, rather impressive, a six button double breasted closure, flapped side patch pockets, single button turned sleeve cuffs and 16 1/2” kick vent. The coat is half lined in navy blue satin rayon.
Label: Progress Brand Clothes De Luxe Hand Needled
Sizing: There is no size label, and although this should fit a size 42/44 depending on your preference for using a suit jacket underneath, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric and the cut of the garment into consideration):
Shoulders: 21” across shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 26” from shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve Inseam: 17” long
Chest: 49” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 48”
Hips: 49”
Overall length: 45 1/2“, measured flat
Condition: Although pre-owned, this coat is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, soiling or odour - the coat looks like it saw very little use and was well stored. It is very clean and ready for use.
This is a great coat - fabulous style and very nice quality, you don’t see coats with this heavy gauge wool anymore as it would be cost prohibitive!
