This is a beautiful quality 1940s mens fashion panama hat featuring a thin ribbon around the crown and a wide brim. This hat was owned by a special envoy to the Vatican, who resided in Rome from 1940 until 1950. He would have bought this hat during the 1940s while a resident there. He passed away in 1953, so this hat certainly dates to the 1940s. The hat has is stamped on the upper interior with “F. Fabrizi Roma”. The size tag states “58 / 5 1/2 / 7 1/8” which is equivalent to a US size 7 1/4 - 7 1/8 would be the English size, however, please note the sweatband circumference, which appears to be closer to a 7 1/8 US. It measures 22 1/4” around the sweatband and 7 3/4” by 6 5/8” across the opening. The brim measures 2 3/8” in width and the crown has a height of 4 1/2”. It is in very good condition with no wear, tear or signs of much use, except for soiling to the sweatband at the lower front (see last close-up photo). The hat would benefit from a professional cleaning, but is certainly very usable as is. This is a super quality panama hat, sold in Italy during the 1940s - please check the close-up of the beautiful weave.......
