Antique Mens Riding Jacket Fahrenbach & Hofer Hamburg Sz S M

This is a wonderful antique mens riding jacket that is really interesting, but a bit of a mystery.  After consultation with my colleagues at the Vintage Fashion Guild, none of us could quite precisely identify either the maker or the purpose of the jacket, but surmised that it probably was meant for riding.  It is made with a sturdy faille fabric that is probably wool based.  The fabric has vertical double pinstripes woven throughout the jacket.  This antique mens riding jacket has high set notched lapels, a three button front and flapped slanted patch pockets at the left chest and at either side.  The sleeve cuffs are delineated by a seam and each has two buttons affixed to it.  The bottom back has a 14” vent.  What especially differentiates this antique mens riding jacket is a flounced bottom back that has four sets of snaps affixed to the lining.  It would appear that the snaps affix to one another so that the flounce would be folded up - the view the photos of the flounce folded up, taken both of the exterior and interior.  This antique mens riding jacket is fully lined in a striped fabric.

Age:  Difficult to say for sure, but I believe Edwardian or post-Edwardian era (1910s)

Sizing: There is no size tag and although this antique mens riding jacket should fit a small to medium size, probably about a US size 36/38, please note the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 18” from shoulder seam to shoulder seam

Sleeves: 24” from the shoulder seam 

Sleeve Inseam: 18”

Chest: 42” around

Waist:  37” around

Bottom:  31”

Length:  39”, measured flat

Condition:  This antique mens riding jacket is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, stains or odour.  This jacket looks to have seen little use and has been very well cared for and stored over the last 100+ years.

This is an unusual and interesting antique mens riding jacket - great conversation piece!
