This is a vintage embroidered tablecloth featuring Hungarian Matyo embroidery. What makes this so easily identifiable are the “Matyo Rose” flowers, which are so distinctive in style. The embroidery is the same on either side and the edge is fringed. This is a beautifully hand embroidered tablecloth in tones of purple, orange, brown, yellow, pink and beige.
Age: this is an older example - my guess would be 1920s or 30s
Size: This embroidered tablecloth measures 28 1/2” by 29 1/2” exclusive of the 6” fringe - total size including the fringe would be 40 1/2” by 41 1/2”.
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear or tear except for the fringe, which is missing or half torn in a few places. In addition, I noticed one stain that I haven’t tried to remove (see last close-up photo) as well as a small dot type stain in the border in one place.
Despite the damage to the fringe and the stain, this is a beautiful hand embroidered tablecloth !
