This is a rarely seen Victorian silk cravat or Windsor scarf, possibly Edwardian era, difficult to date precisely. I’ve included a couple of old catalog pages where you can see a similar piece. The silk is patterned in what appears to be a cherry motif in green with a pink stem against a black background. This Victorian silk cravat is constructed in three pieces - a narrow neck band with a widening piece affixed to either side. Either end is folded over, sewn and finished in a point. It is in very good condition except for a frayed area to one edge of the narrow neck piece (see last close-up photo of cravat) - perhaps a stitching is warranted to eliminate any further fraying. Otherwise, there is no other noted staining, soiling, wear, tear or odour. This Victorian silk cravat measures 48 1/2” in length and has a width of 4” at its widest. Given the rarity of this Victorian silk cravat, the frayed area should be overlooked - it would be very difficult to find a similar example. Beautiful quality silk with a vibrant pink accenting - gorgeous!
