Antique W.H. Grindley Celtic Flow Blue Lidded Butter Dish c.1897
This antique lidded butter dish was produced by W.H. Grindley & Co. of England in their highly collectible Celtic flow blue pattern, introduced in 1897. The set features richly blurred cobalt blue decoration accented with gilt highlights and ornate moulded detailing typical of late Victorian and Edwardian tableware.
The dish consists of a fitted domed cover resting on an integrated handled underplate with a recessed centre designed to secure the butter dome in place. The softly flowing cobalt decoration, textured border and elegant scalloped contours create a refined presentation piece equally suited to display or use within a blue-and-white transferware collection.
This example comes from a large matching service in the Celtic pattern recently acquired - please check my listings for matching pieces.
