This is a very nice quality 100% pure cashmere cardigan sweater made in Scotland by Pringle for Canadian department store chain Eaton’s. The sweater dates to the 1960s - easy to verify because Eaton’s has an apostrophe, which was dropped by Eaton’s in 1971. It is made in patriotic colours - blue background with red and white trim. The buttons are made of brass and have a raised eagle clutching an anchor and surrounded by stars. The sweater has an open V neckline, six button double breasted closure, three button cuffs and long sleeves. There is a pocket built onto either side. It is unlined - the cashmere has a soft nappe and is thick yet light, beautiful quality.
Label: Styled by Pringle for Eaton’s of Canada Made in Scotland. A second label reads “100% Pure Cashmere Made in Scotland”.
Sizing: No size is indicated, and although the lady from whom this was acquired normally wore a medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 15” across, seam to seam
Sleeves: 20 1/2” from the shoulder seam
Sleeve inseam: 16”
Bust: 33” around, taken under the arms
Bottom: 33” around
Overall length: 23”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with the exception of a repair to the front next to one of the buttons (see last two close-up photos). Otherwise, there is no pronounced wear, tear, holes or other defect. I have laundered the item, so it is ready to wear.
This is a beautiful quality cashmere sweater - very patriotic, great for sailing!
