A vintage Mexican sterling silver and turquoise cuff bracelet, dating to the mid-20th century.
The bracelet has a hinged construction, formed from rounded silver bands with two overlapping curved sections across the front. The front is set with eight small round turquoise cabochons in simple silver bezels, with a pair of polished silver ball accents at the centre.
A hinge at the back allows the bracelet to open for putting on and taking off rather than requiring the silver to be bent. When closed, it forms an approximately circular bracelet.
The bracelet is marked MEXICO, STERLING, 925 and bears the Mexican Eagle assay mark with the number 78.
Mexico introduced the numbered eagle assay system in 1948, and it remained in use until approximately 1979/80, when it was replaced by the letter-and-number registration system.
I have seen Eagle 78 attributed to different Mexican silversmiths in the marketplace, including Plateria Ledesma (Arturo) and Plateria Farfan, but I cannot ascribe a maker with certainty.
Based on the marks and design, I would date the bracelet to the 1950s–1960s.
Measurements: Approximately 6 3/4" inside circumference when fully closed.
