This is a vintage 1990s men’s jacket made in an attractive black and white fine stripe. The fabric is a blend of 85% cotton and 15% nylon, with the white stripes raised against the black background, each stripe with cross direction black thread overstitching (see close-up photo). The shoulders have small pads, and the silhouette is fairly straight, however the jacket is sized as small and fits my husband, who normally wears a size 42 (large), so the jacket is meant to be oversized and loose fitting. The notched lapels are medium width and the jacket has a two button closure. There is a chest pocket and a jetted pocket at either side. The jacket is fully lined in black rayon.
Label: Issey Miyake. Issey Miyake (b. 1938) left Tokyo in 1964 for Paris, where he worked for Guy Laroche and then Givenchy. In 1969 he went to New York to work with Geoffrey Beene and then returned to Tokyo in 1970, establishing his own “Miyake Design Studio”. The presence of “Product of Issey Miyake Inc.” on the back of the content label dates the jacket to after August 1990.
The content label reads “Made in Japan”
Retailer label: Louis Laflamme. Louis Laflamme is a Quebec City menswear store established in 1991.
Sizing: As mentioned, size “S” is indicated, which should correspond to a US size 34-36, but it does easily fit a medium size - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the intended oversized style into account:
Shoulders: 20” across, seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 25” long, from shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 16 1/2” long
Chest: 46” around
Waist: 41” around
Overall length: 31 1/2“, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, holes or odors. A dry cleaning is always recommended, but this jacket looks to have seen very little use and to have been well stored over the years.
This is a nice Issey Miyake designed men’s jacket - excellent quality fabric!
