Vintage 1970s Irving Posluns Leather Coat Brown Belted Trench Made in Canada S

$350.00

This vintage Irving Posluns leather coat, made in Canada and dating most likely to the mid-1970s, is a particularly great example of Canadian outerwear from the era.

Fashioned in supple warm medium-brown leather, the coat has a beautifully fitted, elongated silhouette with many of the design elements associated with the best leather coats of the mid-1970s.

The most dramatic feature is the exceptionally wide pointed collar, which spreads across the shoulders and can also be turned upward for a completely different look. Small triangular leather details accent the collar points, while extensive tonal topstitching emphasizes the coat's architectural construction.

The front fastens with round brass-tone buttons and is drawn in at the waist with its original substantial leather belt. The belt has metal eyelets and a rounded brass-tone buckle, coordinating with the buttons and pocket hardware.

Two large patch pockets sit at the hips, each finished with a narrow stitched leather tab and brass-tone stud. Shaped vertical seaming through the bodice creates a fitted waist, while the skirt falls into a long, gently flared line.

The back is particularly attractive, with curved seams sweeping inward toward the waist and continuing into the skirt. The belt passes around the back beneath a wide centre leather keeper, and an inverted pleat below the waist provides additional movement and fullness.

The coat is fully lined in a coordinating champagne/taupe satin lining and retains its original woven IRVING POSLUNS / MADE IN CANADA label.

Irving Posluns was a long-established Canadian outerwear name. Canadian trademark records document the name as having been used in Canada since at least 1947, with women's cloth and leather coats specifically identified among its products.

The combination of the oversized pointed collar, fitted belted waist, long silhouette, brass-tone hardware and prominent topstitched construction places this coat firmly within the mid-1970s aesthetic; circa 1975 is a reasonable dating.

Condition

In very good condition. There are a couple of tiny picks to the leather on the left front, some minor wear at the upper buttonhole and some loose stitches on the belt, all really negligible. The original Irving Posluns label has yellowed with age. Otherwise, there is no other pronounced wear, damage or deterioration noted.

Please examine the photographs, which form part of the condition description.

A fabulous 1970s Canadian leather coat with a wonderful period silhouette—the oversized collar, long fitted shape, original belt and brass-tone hardware give it an unmistakably mid-1970s look.
