Vintage 1950s Queen’s Hotel Montreal Double Egg Cup

Vintage 1950s Queen’s Hotel Montreal Double Egg Cup

$40.00

This is a vintage 1950s double egg cup used at the Queen’s Hotel in Montreal.  The Queen’s Hotel was opened in 1893 and was touted has a modern, fireproof hotel.  Although considered a jewel of Montreal’s Victorian architecture, it closed during the late 1970s and was left to decay until it was demolished in 1988 except for a small part meant to be incorporated into a new construction.  Unfortunately, that never came to be, so the rest was torn down in 1995.  The hotel had a reputation for accessibility and was popular with middle class travellers as it was positioned close to both the Windsor and Grand Trunk railway stations.

This egg cup measures 4” in height and is in very good condition with slight wear to the transfer decoration.  It was made in England of vitrified porcelain and is dated 1-56 (January 1956).  I presently have 5 available, and although they are all similar, there may be small differences in appearance from the one pictured.

A wonderful memento from a historic Montreal hotel…..
