Josef Hospodka Chribska Art Glass Vase OK 104 Sommerso 1956 Czech Mid Century Modern 7.75"
This is a striking mid-century modern art glass vase designed by Josef Hospodka (1923–1989) for the Chřibská Glassworks (Borské sklo) in Czechoslovakia, model OK 104, produced circa 1956.
The vase is executed in thick sculptural glass with a dramatic organic form typical of Hospodka’s work during the 1950s. The glass transitions from a deep emerald green rim into a soft pinkish violet body, creating a vivid colour contrast that changes depending on the light. The heavy casing and internal colour layers create a fluid, almost molten appearance, while the pulled lobes and internal optical ridges give the piece a dynamic sense of movement.
This type of expressive form was characteristic of the post-war Czech studio glass movement, where designers such as Hospodka pushed industrial glass production toward more artistic and sculptural forms.
Pieces from this period of Chřibská production are now highly sought after by collectors of Czech modernist art glass.
