Antique Royal Vienna Porcelain Plate Hand Painted Muse with Cupid Beehive Mark

Antique Royal Vienna Porcelain Plate Hand Painted Muse with Cupid Beehive Mark

$235.00

This is an antique hand painted Royal Vienna porcelain plate marked with a beehive mark in blue underglaze.  This mark was originally used by the The Imperial and Royal Porcelain Manufactory and is called the Bindenschild mark.  A number of people used this mark in imitation of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory aka “Royal Vienna”.  My understanding is that the blue mark underglaze normally is indicative of an authentic piece.  I would date it to between 1890 and 1910.  I’ve provided a number of close-up photos, so please enlarge them in order to view supersized images.  The painting is of a very high quality and is identified by hand inscription on the backside as “Muse ü Amor”, which translates to “Muse and Cupid”.  It is signed by the artist, but difficult to interpret - perhaps “S Gold”, unsure.  This is a smaller plate measuring 6 7/8” in diameter across the top and 7 1/2” in diameter following the bottom contour - the plate has some slight depth to it.  It is in very good condition except for a small glaze flake to the green border (see last close-up photo).

Despite the small defect, this antique hand painted Royal Vienna porcelain plate is a small jewel of a piece featuring quality porcelain painting - wonderful depiction of a muse and a cupid!
