This is an antique Aller Vale Torquay pottery miniature jug decorated in the Ladybird pattern. The decoration is slip applied and sits raised on the surface, glossy and enamel-like. Aller Vale was founded in 1881 and closed its doors in 1932. Its founder, John Phillips, was influenced by the philosophy of William Morris, a movement towards handmade objects as opposed to the industrialization that was underway during the 19th century. The jug measures 3 in height and a has a width of 3 1/2 including its handle. It is in very good condition with no cracks or noted wear. It is hand inscribed on its underside with Aller Vale 1166/N6.
