Vintage alabaster Assumption of the Virgin Mary statue on marble base

Antique Alabaster Assumption of the Virgin Mary Statue on Marble Base Religious Sculpture

$275.00

This antique carved alabaster statue depicts the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, shown gazing heavenward with hands crossed gently over her chest while rising upon clouds and cherubic heads. The figure is carved in alabaster with a warm tone that beautifully catches the light, while the contrasting veined marble base adds substantial weight and elegance. This piece came from an old Quebec church, adding further historical and devotional character.

The sculpture has a serene and contemplative quality, with flowing drapery and an elongated silhouette that gives the piece a refined devotional presence. The softly luminous surface is characteristic of alabaster, a material long prized for religious sculpture because of its ethereal appearance and ability to glow beautifully in natural light.

Likely dating to the early 20th century, the piece blends traditional Catholic iconography with a somewhat streamlined early-century sensibility visible in the graceful form and simplified facial modelling.

A striking and peaceful religious sculpture with lovely presence and timeless devotional appeal — ideal for collectors of ecclesiastical art, antique religious decor, Catholic devotional objects, or early alabaster sculpture.
