Antique 1920s Tuxedo by John Dion Merchant Tailor, Montreal Size Small

Antique 1920s Tuxedo by John Dion Merchant Tailor, Montreal Size Small

$325.00

This authentic 1920s black tuxedo was custom tailored by John Dion, Marchand-Tailleur (Merchant Tailor) of Montreal, Quebec. Dion, born in 1885, was established by 1913 and remained active until 1949 - he was also a noted political organizer. His work exemplifies the quality of early 20th-century Montreal bespoke tailoring.

The tuxedo features a short, boxy jacket with broad peaked lapels, typical of mid-1920s formalwear. It closes with a single front button and has jetted hip pockets, a welted chest pocket, and no rear vent. The matching high-waisted trousers have a button fly, satin braid down each leg, flapped rear pockets, and button tabs for suspenders (included). The waist has been let out approximately from 30” to 33”, leaving stitch marks (see close-up photos). If restored to its original size, these marks would not be visible.
