This is a vintage pure baby camel hair overcoat featuring fabric woven by Crotti in Lessona, Italy - I believe that Crotti shares ownership with Biella.  This pure baby camel hair overcoat is made in a classic style with padded shoulders, peaked lapels, a six button double breasted front, flapped side patch pockets, and split turned sleeve cuffs.  There is an 21 1/2” long kick vent at the bottom back.  There is a two button decorative belt across the back waist.  This pure baby camel hair overcoat is fully lined in black satin acetate.   The coat is in a deep navy blue colour, almost black.

Maker’s label:  Cardinal of Canada

Fabric label:  Pure Baby Camelhair by Crotti Woven in Lessona Italy

Content label:  100% camel hair and also states that this pure baby camel hair overcoat was union made in Canada by the ACTWU/TAVT which was in existence between 1976 and 1995. The CA textile identification number of CA00292 is assigned to Cardinal of Montreal, Canada, a manufacturer with a history dating to 1938 that from the beginning focused on manufacturing quality overcoats and topcoats, mostly in pure cashmere but also in other luxurious fabrics like this pure baby camel hair overcoat.

Sizing: The size label reads US size 40 regular, but this pure baby camel hair overcoat might accommodate a slightly larger size, depending on whether you wish to wear a jacket underneath.  Please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric and the cut of the garment into consideration):

Shoulders: 21” from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeves: 25 1/2” from the shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 18” long

Chest: 50” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 46”

Hips:  52”

Overall length: 49“, measured flat at the back from the neck seam to the hemline

Condition:  This pure baby camel hair overcoat is in very good condition with the exception of some discolouration to the lining at the shoulder/armpit area (see photo of lining).  In addition, there is surface nibbling to the finish in four spots in the same area at the bottom back of the coat (see last close-up photo) - despite the surface nibbling, the coat presents itself very well.

This is a beautiful quality pure baby camel hair overcoat - would have originally been very expensive!
