This is an Indian cotton gauze dress made in India by Anokhi. The fabric is printed with motifs in tones of red and pink with metallic gold paint accents against a black background with violet coloured polka dots.  The bodice bib is made of quilted black fabric with groups of three blue dots and the bib is bordered by strips printed with the same motifs as well as with paisley shapes. The dress is made of 100% cotton - the cotton is woven in a lightweight gauzy construction, great for summer wear.  The dress has an empire waist, and the skirt is gathered in tucks under the waistline so as to fall in drapes. The skirt and sleeves are unlined and are therefore semi-transparent as the cotton is sheer.  The dress has brass button closures under the V shaped neckline and at the sleeve cuffs.

Label: Anokhi For Sarah Clothes Made in India.  Anokhi was a Jaipur based  studio founded in 1970 by John & Faith Singh - they would do their own block printing as well as supplying garments.  Sarah Clothes was a Westmount, Montreal based boutique that specialized in importing Indian garments for an upscale hippie look.  They opened during the 1970s and closed during the 80s.
