This is a beautiful handmade crewel embroidery bedspread, most likely of English origin and dating to the 1920s.  This crewel embroidery bedspread is embroidered in wool on a fine quality flax linen base fabric.  The work is primarily in the centre of the piece, but also across the pillow area and with striping bordering the periphery of the piece.  The piece is in wonderful condition with only four or five yellowish or brownish spots (see close-up photos with a Canadian dime next to them for size reference) - I haven’t tried to remove these spots as I thought that someone more expert in spot removal would stand a better chance of removal without impacting the fabric. Otherwise, there are no other defects - this crewel embroidery bedspread was well stored over the years and looks to have seen little use.  The bedspread measures 84” across, by 100” in length.  The embroidery in the centre of the piece measures 32” by 27”.  The embroidery includes representations of parrots, a squirrel, a deer, acorns, grapes and various flora and foliate, most likely English in origin.  This is a lovely crewel embroidery bedspread - intricate work!
