This is an exceptional vintage mens suit made by Brioni of Rome.  Brioni, of course, is one of the most expensive tailors in the world, each garment hand made and sewn by expert workmen.  Brioni is known for making the most expensive off-the-rack suits in the world, each starting at $5000, with custom tailored suits selling for $15,000.  Brioni was founded in 1945, and during the 50s was discovered by American actors Clark Gable and Cary Grant while working at the Cinecitta Studios in Rome.  Brioni continues to supply made to measure suits to an exclusive clientele.  Among their customers were Kirk Douglas, Henry Fonda, Rock Hudson, Al Pacino, Peter Jennings, Robert Wagner, John Wayne, Robert Kennedy, Nelson Mandela and Luciano Pavarotti. I believe that this suit dates to the late 1970s.

The jacket is made with medium width notched lapels and a two button closure.  There is a flapped pocket at either side and a pocket at the left chest.  The sleeves have three button cuffs and there is no back vent.  It is fully lined in Brioni signature woven “cupro” (rayon).  The pants have a flat panel front and the pant leg flares out to the cuff.
