This is a wonderful 1920s era custom tailored three piece tuxedo consisting of jacket, vest and pants.  The jacket is made with peaked lapels in black grosgrain.  The tailor’s label reads “J. Anderson & Son 44-48 St. Clair Street Kirkcaldy”.  I was able to find mention of James Anderson, tailor at this address, in the Scottish post office directories of 1882-1915.  The jacket has padded shoulders and a double button closure so that even when closed, part of the vest would be visible, although one could leave the jacket open in order to display the vest.  The bottom of the jacket has a rounded cutaway at the front opening.  The jacket has a breast pocket and a jetted pocket at either side.  The sleeves have a three button cuff.  The pants have a six button fly and buttons on the exterior waistband that would accommodate suspenders.  There is a grosgrain stripe down the exterior legs.  The vest is very stylish with an elongated shawl collar, two slant pockets, a four button closure and a black satin back with white interior.  The collar, pockets and bottom are all edged with zigzag rickrack.   There is a belt at the back that would be used to cinch the waist.  The tux is a black colour. The jacket is fully lined in black satin fabric.  I could not fit the vest on my form, so have photographed it separately.  The jacket is quite structured and has a slightly tapered waist.
