This is a fabulous quality overcoat made of 100% pure cashmere that was loomed in Scotland by Crombie.  It is made with high set narrow notched lapels in an above the knee length.  It closes with three plastic buttons down the front that are hidden by an overflap.  Each sleeve has a belt at the cuff, adjustable with two buttons.  There is a flapped pocket at either side, each pocket being velvet lined. The coat has a 12 1/2’’ kick vent at the back.  The coat is fully lined in a light green rayon satin.  Please forgive the creasing to the coat in the photos - this coat really is better than portrayed in the photos with a beautiful sheen to the finish.

Label: Crombie 100% Pure Cashmere Loomed in Scotland

Manufacturer label:  A. Gold & Sons Montreal.

Union label:  ACWU - Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America.  This particular label was in use between 1962 and 1976.

J&J Crombie of Aberdeen Scotland was founded in 1805 and was primarily a luxury cloth producer during its early years, even supplying the Confederate Army during the Civil War with gray uniform cloth.  It is one of the oldest brands in the UK and is renowned for the quality of its production.  Amongst its famous customers were King George VI, Winston Churchill, Cary Grant, Dwight D Eisenhower, JFK and Mikhail Gorbachev.  Its coats became so favored that the word “Crombie” came into generic use to describe a men’s shorter overcoat.

Crombie uses only the best quality fabrics.  The cashmere cloth used on this coat has to be felt to be believed.  It is ultra soft and has a beautiful sheen to the finish.  One would be hard pressed to buy cashmere like this today at an affordable price - they just don’t make quality like this anymore.

Color: Camel toned brown

Sizing: This is about a size 40/42, maybe short (note the sleeve length), depending on whether you want to wear a jacket underneath it, but please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the fabric into account:

Shoulders:  18” across from shoulder seam to shoulder seam

Sleeves:  24” from the shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam:  14 1/2”

Chest: 46” around

Waist: 45” around

Length: 37 1/2”

Condition: It is in very clean condition with beautiful nappe (finish), and no wear, tear, stains or odors except for one tiny nibble to the nappe at the upper left shoulder, really very minor.  This coat looks to have seen little, if any, use and was well stored and cared for over the years.

Exceptional quality and classic styling.....this was originally a very expensive coat - wonderful if you like a shorter length overcoat!
