Vintage 1940s Dressing Gown Floral Chintz Taffeta Lounging Robe Mme Sarette Sz M

This is a wonderful vintage ladies’ dressing gown made of a pale yellow taffeta faille fabric that is printed with a pretty floral pattern.  The print is in tones of red, purple, blue, green and yellow.  The robe has a kimono type crossover neckline and simply folds over to one side for closure, held closed by a pair of internal ties and a hook and eye at the waistline.  It has a half-yellow and half-magenta red sash belt that cinches the waist, held in place by two loops.  The shoulder are ruched and sleeves are made in a short raglan styled length with turned cuffs.  It has an applied pocket on right side - the pocket has a rounded bottom, ruffled top and is decorated with a bow.  It is unlined - the fabric is lightweight and swishy, so this is a lovely summer weather dressing gown!

Label: Mme Sarette Toronto.  I haven’t been able to discover anything about Mme Sarette.

Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this should fit a medium to large size, depending on preference for looseness/tightness of fit, please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: approximately 16” across the ruched shoulders

Sleeves: 16 1/2” long from the mid-neck to the cuff

Bust: 44” around, taken t the armpits

Waist: 30” around, meant to be cinched with the belt

Hips: Full, meant to fall loosely

Overall length: 56 1/2“, measured hanging

Condition:  It is in very good condition with the exception of a few small brownish marks towards the bottom of the robe, quite minor as well as a moisture stain at the bottom left opening.  They may disappear with enough effort and time put into the removal that I haven’t been able to do, but shouldn’t bother you in any case.   Otherwise, this robe looks to have seen little use and has been well stored over the years. 

These 40s era chintz dressing gowns are becoming very difficult to find and taffeta ones are rarely seen.  This is a very pretty example.....lovely!
