This 1950s Vallerysthal crystal vase is a striking example of French mid-century crystal craftsmanship. Hand-blown in Lorraine, France, this vase comes from the renowned Cristallerie de Vallerysthal, a glassworks with origins dating back to 1707 and officially established as la Verrerie de Vallerysthal in 1830. The Art Verrerie line, to which this 1950s Vallerysthal crystal vase belongs, highlighted Vallerysthal’s premium hand-crafted crystal production during the mid-20th century.
The 1950s Vallerysthal crystal vase features a sculptural flared form with thick, heavy glass walls that demonstrate both artistry and durability. Its smokey blue hue, which shifts to greenish tones depending on the light, enhances its presence as a centrepiece in any space. The base carries a faint acid-etched signature reading “Vallerysthal Art Verrerie”, visible only when tilted at the correct angle.
Measuring 10 inches tall at its highest point and approximately 5 by 6 inches across the top, the 1950s Vallerysthal crystal vase is suitable for display on a sideboard, mantle, or dining table.
Condition: This vintage 1950s Vallerysthal crystal vase is in very good condition. It shows expected wear to the underside consistent with age and has a small internal fissure at the base, likely from contact (see last close-up photo). This minor flaw does not affect stability or display and is typical of heavy hand-blown crystal of the period.
