WWII Vintage Vogue Magazine October 15 1944 Issue Paris Haute Couture, Picasso in Paris, Hattie Carnegie

$185.00

This is an original vintage Vogue magazine dated October 15th 1944, published during the final year of World War II. This issue captures a pivotal moment in fashion, art, and culture, balancing wartime restraint with a clear return to elegance and creative expression.

Notable content includes a substantial feature titled “In Paris… Picasso Still at Work,” with text and photographs by Lee Miller, documenting Pablo Picasso in his studio during the Occupation and immediate post-Liberation period. There is a peek at Paris Haute Couture by Lelong, Balenciaga, Robert Piguet, Gres, Paquin, Patou, Rochas and Lanvin - Parisian fashion had been unavailable to America since the German occupation in 1940. Other designers mentioned include American Hattie Carnegie and London based Molyneux.  The issue also includes extensive fashion editorials and advertising reflecting mid-1940s silhouettes, materials, and styling.

Advertising highlights include Enka Rayon, Rothmoor coats and suits, Van Raalte stockings, Old Charter whiskey, Le Sonier, and Deltah Pearls, among many others. Fashion features include made-to-order couture, junior fashions, accessories, and beauty content typical of late-war Vogue.

A solid example for collectors of wartime Vogue, fashion historians, and those interested in 20th-century art and photography.
