This is an authentic WWII era Canadian naval officer’s “greatcoat”, made of heavyweight melton cloth wool. The coat is in excellent condition except for a missing button - these Canadian naval buttons are easy to find online, so a replacement is no problem. There are now 11 buttons arranged in a double breasted fashion - you could always add the needed 12th button or just move one of the top ones under the collar to the lower position. The coat is lined in a quilted satin. The back has a belt with two buttons and there is a button on the shoulders on either side of the neck. The coat has the ACWU (Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union) label that was in use from 1939 to 1949. It also has the T. Eaton Co. label - Eaton would often supply uniforms to the Canadian officers during the war.
Age: 1940s
Color: dark Navy Blue, almost black
Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a medium size - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the wool and the style of the coat into consideration):
Shoulders: 18 1/2” across shoulder seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 25” from shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 16 3/4” long
Chest: 39” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 38” around
Hips: 42” around
Overall length: 45", measured flat
Condition: The only signs of wear are to a couple of buttonholes, very minor, and to the loop at the back of the neck, not important at all. Otherwise, this coat is extremely clean and without wear. The shoulders are missing epaulets, but I’m not sure that there ever were any.
This is a rare and very desirable collectible coat - Canadian buyers, please note that we are a registered Canadian business, so must charge applicable GST/HST.
