W.H. Grindley Celtic Flow Blue Platter 17 1/8" Antique Serving Platter
This antique W.H. Grindley "Celtic" Flow Blue platter features one of Grindley's most recognizable late Victorian patterns. Decorated in deep cobalt blue with flowing floral and foliate motifs framed by a textured border and highlighted with traces of gilt, the design exemplifies the attractive blurred effect that collectors associate with classic Flow Blue ware.
The underside bears the W.H. Grindley mark and registration number associated with the Celtic pattern, which was patented in the United States on October 19, 1897. This generously sized platter would have served as the centrepiece of a dining table and remains wonderful today for display, entertaining, or as part of a collection of antique Flow Blue pottery.
The platter has elegant moulded handles incorporated into the rim and the blue transfer decoration for which the Celtic pattern is known. It pairs beautifully with other Celtic pieces and makes a striking stand-alone display item.
