Vintage Spanish Rooster Pitcher Hand Painted Figural Jug 13"
$110.00
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a vintage Spanish rooster pitcher, hand painted in vibrant red, green, blue, and earthy tones. The whimsical vintage Spanish rooster pitcher features a bold red comb and detailed sgraffito-style decoration, with a spout incorporated into the rooster’s beak and a loop handle at the back.
Rooster pitchers of this style were popular throughout mid-20th century Spain, often associated with tableware for wine service, including sangria, but also used decoratively. With its colourful glaze and folkloric character, it is a lively example of Spanish ceramic tradition.
The pitcher measures:
Height: 12½ in (to comb)
Length: 13 in (from comb to handle)
Width: 4 in
Condition: This vintage Spanish rooster pitcher is in very good condition with the exception of some glaze flaking and chipping to the red comb tips, a low glaze spot on the opening and a small red patch on one side (see photos), but overall it displays beautifully.
Dating:
Likely from the 1950s–1960s, when such hand-crafted figural pottery was widely produced in Spain, particularly in Talavera and Catalonia workshops.
This vintage Spanish rooster pitcher is striking piece of functional folk art that would make a statement whether used for sangria, flowers, or as a display!
