Vintage Sonia Rykiel Tunic Dress Sheer Black Size XL

This product is unavailable
This is a sheer black dress by Sonia Rykiel. The dress is constructed with shirt type collar and a ten button closure as well as with a small button under the collar for the neck closure. It has an 18” slit at either bottom side - it’s possible that it was meant to wear with either pants or, more likely, an underslip, as this is fairly see-through. The fabric has raised horizontal ribbing throughout. The opening is made of a knit and the buttons are impressed with “Sonia Rykiel” (see close-up photo). The dress is unlined. I’m unsure of the fabric, but most likely viscose.
Label: Sonia Rykiel Paris Made in France
Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this should fit an extra large size, please note the following measurements, taking the style of the dress into account, which should fit somewhat loosely:
Shoulders: 18”, from one shoulder/sleeve to the other
Sleeves: 22” from estimated shoulder
Overall Length: 44”
It is in very good condition and looks like it saw little use and was very well kept over the years.
This is an interesting piece - properly accessorized, definitely would make an impression!
Sonia Rykiel began designing in 1962 because she was pregnant and couldn’t find a sweater that would fit her properly. She started her business in 1965 and became noticed by Vogue magazine in 1967. She opened her flagship store in Paris in 1968. She passed away recently, on August the 25th, 2016. She will be remembered both as the “Queen of Knitwear” and a true fashion innovator.
