This is a black suede purse made by the fashion house of Schiaparelli during the 1950s. I believe that the suede is made of antelope, which is notorious for “bleeding” its colour onto other surfaces, but, in this case, that isn’t happening, so that is a big plus - super quality without the down side. The purse is made in a long handbag form with a wonderful bar shaped clasp in shiny brass with black insets. It has a suede leather carrying strap with a 7” drop. The interior has two open pockets and a zippered compartment. The purse measures 8 3/4” by 10 1/2” with a bottom depth of 2 1/4”. The purse is posed with a Schiaparelli box, but please note that the box is not included with the purse, and used only as a photo prop. The purse comes with its change wallet and mirror.
Label: “Schiaparelli New York Paris” affixed to the interior
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, soiling, marking or other defect - this purse looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years. The only issue is that two of the black insets in the handle are a little recessed on one side, very minor, but mentioned in the interest of full disclosure.
This is a very nice quality purse - Schiaparelli handbags are hard to come by, and are prized additions to a purse collection!
