This is vintage red woven fabric, unused in a bolt that measures about 54” in width. I have presently about 10 yards available. The fabric has a repeating black rose floral motif woven into the red silk base, quite striking. Please note that the top side has a satin finish while the underside is a matte weave and has more of the black colour apparent so that the colour is a darker red. This fabric was acquired from the liquidation of an old fur business, so obviously had been used to line fur coats or hats. Judging by its appearance, I believe that this fabric dates to the 1950s. I took a piece from the roll to perform a burn test - the result was a hard black ash, but the scent was inconclusive to me. I believe that the test indicated a silk or silk blend, definitely not synthetic.
This is very nice quality fabric in a striking colour - wonderful if you need to re-line a fur coat, or perhaps could be used to make other items from scarves to pillows or anything that you can think of!
