This is a vintage new with tags (NWT) 1970s 3 piece suit that is made of a 100% wool worsted in a medium blue colour. All three pieces retain their original tags and labels and the pockets haven’t been opened nor have the pant cuffs been finished. The jacket to this 1970s 3 piece suit has medium width notched lapels, a two button front, three button cuffs and has a 12” centre vent at the bottom back. There is a pocket at the chest and a large patch pocket at either side. It is fully lined in light blue acetate. The vest has a cutaway front, a five button closure, and a four pocket front. Note that the vest was too small for my form, so the top button is undone. The pants have a flat panel front and a flared leg.
Label: Oleg Cassini. Cassini was quite the intriguing character. He was the son of a diplomat and was a well known Hollywood Lothario. He started his career as a sketch designer for Hollywood wardrobe departments. He met and married Gene Tierney in 1941, designing her wardrobe for the films that she appeared in. After the marriage faltered, he had relationships with many of Hollywood’s top actresses, including Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe and Anita Ekberg. He is best known for shaping Jackie Kennedy’s look while she was First Lady. This suit was made in Poland under license to Oleg Cassini.
Fabric label: 100% Pure Virgin Wool
Price label: Baymart 2 for 99.00. Baymart was the clearance department for the Hudson’s Bay department store. Sounds cheap, but $99 in 1976 is worth about $525 in today’s dollars.
