This is a vintage men’s wool overcoat dating to the early 1950s. The label reads “Jack Gold’s Clothes 1237 St. Catherine St. W. Montreal” - Jack Gold’s was at that location only between 1949 and 1954, so the coat dates to sometime within that date range. The coat is made in a classic style, with padded shoulders, wide peaked lapels, a six button double breasted closure, a flapped patch pocket at either side and an 18” centre kick vent at the back. The coat is half lined in a black satin fabric. There are two inner pockets. The wool fabric is tightly woven and fairly heavyweight - this should provide good warmth for the winter.
Colour: Navy blue
Sizing: There is no size indicated and although this should fit a medium to large size 40/42, depending on if you wear a jacket underneath. Please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the coat and the thickness of the fabric into account:
Shoulders: 20” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to other shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 26 1/2” from the shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve Inseam: 17”
Chest: 48” around
Waist: 48” around
Length: 45”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, staining or odour. This coat has been well cared for over the last 65 to 70 years.
The wool fabric is quite substantial on this coat - quality, not like the lightweight wool used on overcoats now. Nice early 1950s style!
