This is a vintage mens 50% cashmere / 50% lambswool coat or overcoat made in a dark navy blue colour. It is made in a classic style with peaked lapels, padded shoulders, six button double breasted closure, three button cuffs, flapped pocket at either side, chest pocket and a 20’’ kick vent at the back. The coat is fully lined in a viscose satin. The fabric is of very good quality - soft and has a beautiful finish. Considering the type of labels, it would date, I believe, to the late 1970s or 1980s, but being so classic in design, difficult to date precisely.
Label: Made in England Holt Renfrew. Holt Renfrew is a high end Canadian retail store that sells only designer and luxury brands, as well as their own branded garments, usually made by the same factories that produce the luxury brands. A content label reads 50% cashmere 50% wool Made in England CA 01285. CA 01285 is the Canadian textile identification number for a company called “James Edmond Apparel Industries”, which was started in 1977 and dissolved in 1998, I assume an importer/distributor. There is also a fabric label that reads 50% Cashmere 50% Lambswool Tailored in England”.
Sizing: The size label reads US size 42S, but please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the fabric into account:
Shoulders: 20 1/2” across from shoulder seam to shoulder seam
Sleeves: 25 1/2” from the shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 17”
Chest: 48” around
Waist: 46” around
Hips: 50” around
Length: 47”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, stains or odours - the stitching between the right collar and lapel is undone, but this really doesn’t affect anything, and I noticed one small surface nibble at the left side, really minor. Otherwise, this coat looks to have seen little use and was well stored and cared for over the years.
Nice English quality and classic styling….Holt Renfrew only sold/sells quality garments, so this was probably originally an expensive coat…….
