This is a silk twill scarf made by the venerable firm Liberty of London. The scarf features an ornate paisley based pattern in multiple colours against a an ochre gold background. The scarf comes in its original box that is marked “Trimingham’s Bermuda” - tourists used to buy goods at Triningham’s due to the tax free advantages.
Age: probably 1960s
Label: No label, but printed “Liberty of London All Silk Made in England” within the pattern
Color: Ochre gold, three tones of blue, lilac, black and dropped out white. Liberty scarves of this period were printed with woodblocks, each colour silkscreened separately. Registration is difficult using this method, so due to production waste, Liberty scarves were expensive.
Size: 27” square
Condition: It is in very good condition with no wear or tear and it is free of stains or odors. This looks like it saw little use and was well stored over the years. It originally was folded in the box, but there were light moisture staining in the centre of the scarf, so I had the scarf dry cleaned (note attached dry cleaner ticket), which caused the scarf to lose its original folds.
This is a wonderful quality Liberty scarf with a striking design and in very nice condition!
