Vintage Goebel Praying Madonna Statue MI Hummel Virgin Mary TMK 1

Brand Etsy

This is a statue of a praying Madonna or Virgin Mary produced by Goebel of Germany, probably modelled by MI Hummel. Although difficult to see due to the number 114 written over it, the underside is impressed with the Goebel Crown mark - this early impressed mark is known as TMK 1, and was used between 1935 and 1950. It is also impressed with HM 427(4)?, R1 and 3. The underside is also stamped with Germany and hand inscribed with the number 46, possibly a date code. The piece measures 11 in height. It is in very good condition with the exception of a small surface chip to the front base (see close-up photo). very minor. Also, the back of her head has an unglazed area that looks like it should have had a halo affixed to it - there is no evidence that there ever had been one there. Finally, there is a firing fissure to her neck, but this is original to the making of the piece and not at all noticeable - mentioned in the interest of full disclosure. This model appears to be uncommon as I can find similar models, but none exact to this one. Lovely art deco form - displays beautifully as is....
