This is an original Chanel “Storyboard” Fall/Winter 2001–2002 fashion lookbook, featuring photography by Karl Lagerfeld and printing and design by Gerhard Steidl.

Produced by Chanel in 2001, the publication presents the Chanel Automne/Hiver 2001/2002 – Fall/Winter 2001/2002 collection through a series of photographic storyboards combining fashion images with atmospheric photographs of roads, landscapes, architecture and other locations.

The fashion photographs show pieces from Karl Lagerfeld's Fall/Winter collection, including tailored suits, knitwear, dresses, evening fashions, handbags, jewellery, footwear and other accessories. The photographs are arranged in cinematic four-image compositions, interspersing the clothing with landscape and location photography.

The book opens with a photograph bearing the title “STORYBOARD” and is housed in its original grey Chanel presentation cover with the interlocking CC logo centred on the front.  It consists of 22 sheets, each printed on one side only, bound and backed with cardboard and independent of its Chanel logo embossed grey cardboard wrapper.

The publication was produced for private distribution by Chanel rather than as a conventional retail fashion book. The final section includes a period listing of Chanel boutiques and retail locations throughout Europe, North America, Asia and other international markets.

An unusual piece of early-2000s Chanel fashion ephemera and an excellent reference for collectors of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, fashion photography, designer lookbooks and Steidl publications.

Condition:  Very clean, looks to have seen very little handling - one insignificant mark at the bottom of the grey wrapper.
