Vintage Birch Bark Moose Call Horn Attikamek Indigenous Hunting Tool Quebec c. 1940s–1960s

$250.00

This is a vintage birch bark moose call horn, attributed to the Attikamek people of Quebec, and believed to date to the mid-20th century - it was found was other Attikamek birch items collected during the 1970s.

This horn is hand-constructed from rolled birch bark, secured along the seam with wooden stitching, and finished with a woven rim of split wood or spruce root. The exterior shows darker organic patterning created through selective stripping of the birch bark surface, revealing lighter layers beneath.

Moose call horns of this form were traditionally used in woodland hunting to imitate the call of a cow moose during the rut. The size, construction, and wear of this example suggest it was made as a functional hunting tool, rather than as a later decorative or souvenir object.

This piece is offered as a historic Indigenous utilitarian object. No claim of ceremonial or sacred use is made.
