This is a handcrafted vintage birchbark lidded box, attributed to the Attikamekw Nation of central Quebec, featuring a bold geometric motif created through cut and layered birchbark decoration. The design on the lid consists of a four-lobed central form framed by a contrasting circular border, executed in darker bark against a cut away lighter birch ground.

The box is constructed using traditional Woodland techniques, with stitched birchbark walls and lid secured by split spruce root lacing. The interior reveals careful handwork and natural variation in the bark, while the exterior shows a warm, well-aged surface with visible bark lenticels and natural grain.

This style of cut-bark decoration is characteristic of mid-20th-century Indigenous craft production in Quebec, where functional containers were often embellished for personal use or for sale through cultural centres and regional markets.
