This is a vintage woven wool poncho designed by Pirkko Maki for the Arolan Kutomo company of Toijala, Finland. Pirkko was the daughter of Pirkko Arola, who founded the Arolan Kutomo company during the 1940s. These ponchos were marketed during the 1960s and were very popular, enjoying both domestic and export markets. This poncho is woven in a striking magenta, light blue and navy blue striped combination. It has a wide turned collar and a fringed bottom edge and is constructed in a triangular shape. This should fit a range of medium sizes - the neck measures 26” around, while the side measures 29” in length from the neckline to the hemline, exclusive of the fringe. Laid flat, the centre measures 29” in height exclusive of the 3” fringe. It is in very good condition with no wear, tear or staining.
Nice Finnish quality - attractive, easy to wear vintage 60s look!
