This is a fabulous vintage pillbox hat made by renowned milliner Lilly Dache (Lilly Daché). Daché started her millinery career by apprenticing with known milliners in Paris and then purchasing a New York hat shop in 1924. She retired in 1968 after building a fashion business that comprised perfume, make-up, accessories and clothing, but always with a focus on hat making.
This hat is made of gray colored silk that is heavily embroidered with metallic gold and silver braid and studded with crystal rhinestones. It is lined in white acetate and has a small comb at either side that aids in keeping the hat in place.
Age: 1950s, maybe early 60s
Label: Lilly Daché Paris New York
Color: Gray with metallic gold
Material: Silk, metallic thread and rhinestones
Sizing: There in no size label, and although this should fit a small sized head, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the hat into consideration - this hat is supposed to sit on top of the crown of the head, although it could be worn in different positions:
Opening: 19 1/2” around,
Height: 3 7/8”
Condition:
It is in very good condition - no wear, tear or staining and very clean. The only issue is that the center of the hat is slightly collapsed - this could maybe be because of the way that the hat was stored, or it could be that it was simply made this way as I don’t see any evidence of stiffener. A professional re-block may be helpful, although the hat is very wearable as is.
This is an absolutely exceptional hat - literally quite stunning.......
