Vintage 1989 Montreal Expos Youppi! Felt Pennant MLB Trench Mfg. 30 Inch
A vintage Montreal Expos Youppi! felt pennant, officially licensed by Major League Baseball and dating to 1989.
The large triangular pennant features Youppi!, the Montreal Expos mascot, sliding into a base at the left, with MONTREAL EXPOS printed in red and blue across the centre and the classic Expos “elb” logo toward the point.
The lower portion of the illustration is printed:
TRENCH MFG. CO. © 1989 MLB
Youppi! served as the Montreal Expos mascot from 1979 until the team left Montreal following the 2004 season. 1989 was also the year Youppi! became the first mascot to be ejected from a Major League Baseball game, during the Expos' 22-inning game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Olympic Stadium on August 23, 1989.
This appears to be an uncommon Youppi! pennant design. I have been unable to locate another example of this exact 1989 Trench Manufacturing pennant.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. There are a few very minor surface fuzzies, but the pennant has been exceptionally well preserved. The printed colours remain strong. Please examine the photographs.
