Vintage 1980s Yves Saint Laurent Wool Tuxedo Double Breasted Dinner Suit Size 44

This vintage tuxedo features an officially licensed Yves Saint Laurent label and was retailed by Classy of Montreal, one of Canada's specialists in formalwear. Made in Canada from 100% pure virgin wool, it reflects the design aesthetic associated with Yves Saint Laurent's influence on men's evening wear during the late twentieth century.

The jacket is tailored in a double-breasted four-button style with satin-faced peak lapels, satin-covered buttons, jetted pockets, and a fully lined interior. The matching formal trousers feature the traditional satin side stripe, and have a flared leg.

The fabric label confirms the suit is 100% pure virgin wool.  The CA number identifies the maker as the French Connection of Montreal.  They first used that name in 1976 and the name was transferred to another entity in 1990.  The Yves Saint Laurent in this style was used during the 1980s.  Classy both retailed and rented formalwear - the pants only have a generic label but match well.

Labels:

The Yves Saint Laurent label was produced under Classy Formal Wear's exclusive Canadian licensing agreement with Yves Saint Laurent, established in 1987.  The first tuxedos were made in Korea, but in 1988 Classy began transferring manufacturing of the tuxedos to Canada.  The CA number is registered to The French Connection of Montreal, which appears to have been responsible for the Canadian production of this tuxedo. The garment is labelled Made in Canada.

The size indicates a size 44 regular with 34” waist pants, but please refer to the measurements below.

Condition

Excellent condition. The satin lapels, buttons, and trouser stripe remain crisp and attractive and the side pockets are still sewn shut, an indication that the jacket saw little use. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.

This is a very dapper vintage tuxedo designed by one of the greatest Parisian fashion designers….very classy!
