Vintage 1970s Suit Glen Plaid Wool Bayard-Elysées Paris France
This vintage 1970s suit dates to the early to mid-70s and was made in France. It features a brown and beige Glen plaid with fine blue and rust overchecks, cut in a classic 1970s silhouette with broad lapels, a fitted waist, a two button closure and flared trousers. The jacket has a large box pleated patch pocket at either side and another at the left chest.
Material: unlabeled as to content, but almost surely pure wool
Origin: Made in France Bayard-Elysées Paris, Place Bonaventure, Montréal. A second label reads “Podium Made in France”. Difficult to know for sure, but I believe that the brand is Podium and the retail boutique is Bayard-Elysees, located both in France and at Place Bonaventure in Montreal, which is an underground shopping mall. There is both a clothing manufacturer called Bayard that specialized in menswear from 1919 into the 1970s, popular with French celebrities, and a street called Bayard located in the Champs d’Elysées in Paris.
