Vintage 1970s Poncho Hand Loomed Wool Cape Quebec Artisan M L
This is a wonderful vintage 1970s poncho that was hand loomed in Quebec, Canada. The label is no longer there, but I’ve had other examples in the past, many with a label identifying the maker as artisan Martine Gruber, although there were other makers as well. Pieces like this were part of the 1970s movement to hand make products as part of a rejection of machine made disposable fashion. The wool is arranged in rows in mixed tones of blue and black with small pom-poms - note the intricacy of the weave in the close up photos. The poncho has no arm openings and simply fits over the head. It is fringed at the bottom
